Vedic Maths Multiplication Tricks For Two Digit Number
In previous blog post, I have written about what is vedic mathematics, multiplication of single digit easily.
In this blog, I will explain different vedic multiplication
tricks for 2 digit number. These are fast mental math to multiply two 2 digit numbers.
Two 2 digit number starts with Same digit and their last digit’s sum is 10
This is applicable when left hand side of number, which we
multiply, is same and sum of right hand
side of the number is 10.
Eg 81 * 89
Here 8 is the left hand number or tens digit of two number,
which is same. Sum of right hand side , that is 1 + 9 is 10. So condition
satisfies.
Step 1: First is to find right hand side of the answer. Multiply the right hand side of the numbers. That is 1*9=09. 09 is the right hand side of the answer.
Step 2: Find left hand side of the answer. Please note that left hand number for both numbers is same, in our case 8 is that number. Multiply the number with next highest number that is 9. 8*9 = 72. 72 is the left hand side of the answer.
Two digit number ends with same number and sum of their starting number is 10
This I applicable when right hand side of the number is same
and sum of the left hand side digit is 10.
Eg 18*98
Here 8 is the right hand side of the numbers which is same
and sum of left hand digit of the numbers is 10. So condition is satisfied.
Step1: First is to
find right hand side of the answer. Multiply the right hand side of the
numbers. That is 8*8=64. 64 is right hand side of the answer.
Step2: Find left hand of the number. Multiply left hand
digits and add the right hand digit, which is same for both numbers . That is
1*9 = 9, then 9 + 8( right hand digit )= 17. 17 is the left hand side of the
answer.
So answer is 1764
Base Method
This method is used to find all multiplication of two 2-
digit numbers. Here we need consider 100 as base number for calculation.
Eg: 92*95
Step1: write 92 & 95 is left hand side, one below the other.
Then write value of 100-92 against 92 and value of 100-95 against 95.
Step2: Find right hand side of the answer by multiplying
8&5. That is 8*5=40. 40 is right hand side of the answer.
Step3: Find left hand side by cross substracting, any two
pair, either 92 – 5 or 95 – 8, noth have same value 87. 87 is the left hand
side of the answer.
So 92*95=8740
General Method
Let consider 98*99
There are 3 part in the answer – first part, middle part
& last part
Step1: find last part by multiplying last digit of the two
number. That is 8*9 = 72. In this method, we need to take only single digit for
right hand side, 2 is last digit of the answer, 7 is carried forwarded to
middle part.
Step2: Find middle part by cross multiplication of the left
hand side and right side and its sum. 9*9 + 8*9 = 81 + 72 = 153. In previous
step there is carried forward number, add that also into this. 153+7= 160. Now
carry forward 16 to first part. 0 is the middle part of the answer
Step3: Find first part by multiplying first two digit of the
numbers. 9*9=81. Now add that carry forward, from middle part, into this. 81+16=97.
So answer is 9702.
This method is useful to calculate small number multiplication like 12*22.
12*22 = 264
One must not use same method for every calculation, apply a method so that answer can be derived fastly. When practicing regularly, one can identify which method can be applied for given calculation.
Try 23*27, 43*63, 91*93, 32*51 and comment in the blog, so that, I can understand, my blog was helpful.
